Taylor Swift's date to the Academy of Country Music Awards hospitalized

Taylor Swift's date to the Academy of Country Music Awards, an 18-year-old fan named Kevin McGuire who is battling leukemia, was hospitalized and will not be able to attend the ceremony with the country star.

McGuire's older sister, Victoria McGuire started a Facebook campaign earlier this year to get the country singer to go to Kevin McGuire's prom. The 22-year-old singer explained she was unable to go to the teen's p! rom but said, "I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up. Would you be my date? Love, Taylor."

"I have cancer. Cancer doesn't have me." McGuire told a Philadelphia CBS affiliate. "Taylor, I would love to go with you."

However, Swift informed her fans on March 31 that Kevin McGuire was not well enough to join the singer at the ceremony.

"Just talked to Kevin McGuire. He's not well enough to join me at the ACMs," Swift Tweeted. "Please keep him in your thoughts. I'll make it up to you, Kevin!"

On The campaign page for "Taylor Swift take KEVIN MCGUIRE TO PROM" Victoria McGuire wrote on Saturday, "I am so sorry to announce this devastating news, but Kevin was admitted to the hospital last night, and is unable to attend the Academy of Country Music Awards with Taylor Swift."

McGuire added, "We appreciate everything you have done for us, and we know you are all hurt from this too. Please continue to pray for Kevin and his health, because that is the most important thing. As for Taylor, she is just as depressed as all of us to miss out on this date, and we are so thankful for the opportunity she has given us."

Kevin McGuire was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 13 years old and after years of chemotherapy, spinal taps and screenings, was declared to be free of cancer in April 2010. Unfortunately, McGuire suffered a relapse and is now battling cancer for the second time.

Swift is up for three awards at the 47th annual Academy of Country Music Awards, including Entertainer of ! the Year , Female Vocalist of the Year and Video of the Year for her 2011 song, "Mean."

The 2012 Academy of Country Music Awards are scheduled to be held in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 1st and will air at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Check out the list of nominees here.
