According to Variety, an offer has not yet been made to Swift, but she ranks high up on Sony Pictures' and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura's wish list, especially considering the 22-year-old country pop princess has the musical chopsnot to mention six Grammy Awards under her belt, two shy of Mitchell's eightfor the part.

The flick will be based on Sheila Weller's book Girls Like Us, which is being adapted by filmmaker John Sayles and chronicles the careers of the Blue singer and fellow crooners Carly Simon and Carole King.

Other actresses have been auditioning for the latter parts in recent months, among them Alison Pill, who played Zelda Fitzgerald in Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris.
