Taylor Swift in running for "Miserables" film role

Image
Is Universal and Working Title's adaptation of the Broadway hit "Les Miserables" finally about to get its Eponine? Taylor Swift, Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson and Evan Rachel Wood are being considered for the role in Tom Hooper's film, the New York Post reported Wednesday morning. All four actresses have reportedly auditioned for the role. A representative for Universal declined comment on the casting to TheWrap, saying only that no decisions have been made. In the Victor Hugo novel of the same name, Eponine is a child spoiled by her parents, the Thenardiers, until they become poor. She falls in love with Marius and dies trying to save his life. Marius will be played by Eddie Redmayne in the Hooper film, which also stars Hugh Jackman , Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway and Geoffrey Rush. "Les Miserables" is due in theaters on December 7, 2012. Taylor Swift as Counterculture Icon for Teens: Amity Shlaes

What is teen rock music for? To shut out parents. Or so it always seemed. The donning of the ear buds marks the beginning of teen life, when children set off on their own for the passage through adolescence. Boom boxes performed the same function in the old days. Even back then, the content of the songs was anti-parent, or at least parent-free. Adults were generally depicted as not understanding: Suzanne, the plans they made put an end to you, as James Taylor put it decades ago, describing what adults did to a troubled girl. The angry anti-them bias has been the rule since the days of the screaming girls at New York s Kennedy Airport, waiting for the Beatles. Help, I need someone! Just not my mother. Most parents have assumed there was nothing you could change about this dynamic. It was a childs developmental right to break away, girls as well as boys. Music had to end childhood, and early. After a child reaches 13, or 11, or 9, parents must be dissed. Good manners showed you were your

Watch Taylor Swift Perform at Billboard Before She Was Famous

Taylor Swift may be Billboard's Woman of the Year , but we remember Swift when she was just a girl of 16. Back in July 2006, when Taylor's debut single "Tim McGraw" was creeping up our Country Songs chart , the songstress stopped by Billboard's New York offices to mingle and entertain our staff. Women in Music 2011 Taylor Swift Named Billboard Woman of the Year An articulate and self-aware Swift, with just a bit more Nashville twang present in her voice, explained her inspiration: "This is a song called 'Tim McGraw.' For those of you who haven't heard it and think I'm weird right now, I'm going to go ahead and explain myself. It's not really about Tim McGraw , and I'm not a stalker. It's really about two people who fall in love and their song is a Tim McGraw song. I think it really deals with the power of country music, and how it has the power to haunt you and take you back to the places where you first heard that song."

Song of the Week: 'Ours,' Taylor Swift

Image
Taylor Swift: Country music's Entertainer of the Year. Because Taylor Swift dresses in purple pastels and perpetually wears a astonished smile, her punch takes listeners by surprise. Swift is, as she told a Madison Square Garden audience she drove to the verge of pandemonium Monday night, a hopeless romantic. Shes also awfully combative. Her love stories have bad guys and girls, and triumph over these adversaries is a large part of what shes selling so successfully. This is a young woman whos taken Shakespeares "Romeo and Juliet" firmly in her tongs and banged the ending into a shape that better fits her all-American optimism (and her desire for victory). She rides off with the prince, the diamond ring and the moral high ground that comes from sticking to your guns when those around you demand compromise. She wants it all the emotional turmoil and the rebel cred, the glory and the thrown garter and shes willing to fight to get it. "Ours," her six and latest h

Taylor Swift in N.Y.: On the scene

After a terrific set by South Carolina rockers NEEDTOBREATHE, whose strong sense of melody make it clear why Ms. I love a good hook Swift hand-picked them to open for her, the star of the evening emerged from the stage to lead her massive production. Ive said it before, but allow me to reiterate: Anyone that doesnt think Taylor Swift shouldve won Entertainer of the Year at the CMA Awards has never seen her live. That girl is the definition of an entertainer. Sparks literally flew (courtesy of harnessed, floating dancers) during Sparks Fly, twinkling trees shone through a foggy, gazebod set during Enchanted, fearless dancers dropped out of enormous bells on Haunted, and, of course, Taylor donned a ball gown and soared over the audience in a Juliet balcon
