Taylor Swift is thought to have beaten stiff competition to land a lead role in the star-studded film version of Les Miserables.

It's being reported that the 21-year-old has been offered the part of Eponine in the upcoming Hollywood adaptation.

If it's true, the country singer will have beaten Scarlett Johansson, Lea Michele and Evan Rachel Wood for the coveted part in the Tom Cooper-directed film.

Amanda Seyfried, who starred in Mamma Mia, is also reported to have won the role of Cosette and will play the daughter of Anne Hathaway's Fantine, even though Hathaway is only three years older then Seyfried in real life.

As well as Hathaway, other A-list stars confirmed for the movie are Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean and Russell Crowe taking on Inspector Javert.

Helena Bonham Carter has taken the part of Madame Thenardier and Eddie Redmayne has been cast as Marius.

Filming is expected to start early this year, with a planned release date in December 2012.
