Taylor Swift's 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' review

Country girl gone pop princess?

Who else is surprised by the drastic change in TSwifts style? We are. Its hard to ignore the artists new direction in her single release, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.

Taylors new track is far less country than the country star normally produces, featuring an electronic heavy production and pop-ier vocal stylings. Even with this new change, Swifts track is undeniably girly and lovable, but the sudden alterations in her signature bubblegum guitar have given some of us Taylor Swift whiplash.

Regardless, the artists upcoming album, Red, should be equally as emotional and unbalanced as previous records, and we commend Taylor on her adventurous step outside the world of sugary country.

We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together has a similar attitude as The Veronicas on an optimistic day, or like Avril Lavigne during her punk pop princess days. However, Swift is far more upbeat and childish in her lyrics singing, I say/ I hate you/ We break up/ You call me/ I love you.

There is nothing wrong with simplistic lyrics and a straightforward melody, especially since Swifts audience will enjoy it. Unfortunately, the sudden change in style makes learned listeners wonder if the alterations are made simply because of an artists ever changing style, or because of the profitability for pop-ier catchier tunes.
