Taylor Swift target of trolls

There are ways to harness the powers of the Interweb for good.

And lulz (e.g. shipping Pitbull to Alaska).

And lulz that just arent that funny.

Take this tidbit about Taylor Swift: the hit-making Holly Hobbie figurine made flesh is holding a contest where shell play your school and donate $50,000 to its music program if it gets the most votes on Facebook. (You may have heard about it last week.)

Some Reddit and 4Chan users found out about it, anyway Swifty does have the No. 1 hit in the U.S., after all and theyve launched a campaign to gather votes for their preferred institution: a school for the deaf.

Bostons Horace Mann School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, specifically, which had 17,000 votes (and counting) as of Thursday morning. And while Mashable reports theres no way to determine where Horace Mann stands in the overall poll, the outlet offers the following perspective: Arizona State, which boasts one of the largest student bodies in the U.S., had just 2,768 votes as of 8:15 a.m. ET Wednesday.

Now, should Horace Mann win, Swift isnt obligated to actually go through with the appearance. The contest rules offer Swift an out, The Atlantic Wire notes. As it reads in the fine print: If Music Event details cannot be agreed upon with Tay! lor Swif t and the Grand Prize Winning School, Chegg may award the Music Event to another school (time permitting).

But as one anonymous 4chan user snarked: he epic thing about this is, Taylor swift cant exactly back down and refuse to play for a load of deaf kiddies without a media slaughter so shell more than likely go ahead if they win.

Commenters like that one, however, have overlooked one thing which is as heartwarming as any Taylor Swift love song: If Horace Mann wins, the students will probably love a visit from Swift (provided theyre Taylor Swift fans).

Just because youre deaf, doesnt mean you cant enjoy music concerts have been designed for hearing-impaired for years, and most dont have the benefit of featuring a Grammy-winning superstar who probably smells like pumpkin cupcakes and brings sunshine and group hug wherever she goes. (Visual spectacle, yall.) And while, say, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together isnt exactly heavy on the bass which would help the audience enjoy the vibrations of the music Rolling Stone reports that Swifts new album, Red, offers at least one experiment with dubstep. At long last, Skrillex could have a positive influence on a major pop stars music.

Swifts con! test clo ses September 23. Shes expected to debut the music video for current hit, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together later today.
