Taylor Swift Tops Social 50 Chart While Gotye and Psy Re-Enter Top 10

Taylor Swift tops Billboard's Social 50 for the first time this week, as Gotye and Psy make smashing top 10 re-entries.

After setting the record for the biggest digital sales week ever for a song by a woman and finally getting her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Taylor Swift quickly bounds to the No. 1 spot on the Social 50 for the first time. The 6-1 rise is owed to the success of her newest single, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," which also coincides with a 73% increase in overall weekly video plays.

The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, using a formula that blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.

"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" was released as a lyric video on Aug. 14 to Swift's official Vevo channel and has racked up over 6 million views. In the storm of media attention following the single and the announcement of the new album, her overall online activity has seen an upward swing. She added 138,000 Facebook fans and 254,000 Twitter followers to her overall fan base during the charting week.

Meanwhile, Gotye makes a smashing re-entry at No. 2 (a new chart high) courtesy of a video he released that mashes up all of the various covers of his hit "Somebody That I Used to Know." As the fan covers for the Hot 100-topping single helped propel the original video for "Somebody That I Used To Know" to a staggering 305 million YouTube views, Gotye couldn't resist giving back to the fans by featuring them in a creation of his own.

"Somebodies: A YouTube Orchestra" was released to Gotye's official YouTube channel on Aug. 12 and received close to 2 million views during the charting week, contributing to Gotye's overall 7 millio! n views. A 39% increase in weekly YouTube fan acquisition, and a 5% increase in Twitter followers also aided in Gotye's triumphant Social 50 return.

K-Pop sensation Psy re-enters the chart at No. 9 after a slight waning of the song's otherwise continuous popularity. During the charting week, Psy released the Hyuna version of "Gangnam Style" via his official YouTube channel. it features former Wonder Girls member Hyuna, who was also featured as the sought-after Gangnam girl in the original video.

Though her little voice lacks the booming delivery of Psy's, the video itself did not fail to make an impact. The Psy featuring Hyuna version has collected over 15 million views since its debut, funneling more attention to Psy and the original "Gangnam Style" clip. He added 64,000 new fans to his overall fan base (169% increase) and 1.7 million views to his YouTube channel (a 257% increase). The story of Psy has continued to cross over into major U.S. news outlets such as ABC News and Time, and Psy himself recently made a special appearance at a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game performing his signature dance.

Covering the rest of the Top 10, Wiz Khalifa breaks in, rising 25-3 after he released a popular behind-the-scenes video that earned 1 million views over the charting week. Rihanna falls (1-4) as do Justin Bieber (2-5), Katy Perry (3-6) and One Direction (5-8). Miley Cyrus makes "The Climb" (11-7), as Adele slides (4-10).
