A beauty advert in Covergirl featuring Taylor Swift has been banned in the US.

The National Advertising Division claimed that the NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara campaign contained excessive Photoshop editing, and refused to allow it into the public domain.

"You can't use a photograph to demonstrate how a cosmetic will look after it is applied to a woman's face and then - in the mice type - have a disclosure that says 'Okay, not really'," Andrea Levine, director of the National Advertising Division, told Business Insider.

Twilight star Dakota Fanning had a similar run-in with an advertising watchdog last month when her advert for 'Oh Lola!' perfume was condemned as too sexually provocative.

Beyonc's campaign for her Heat fragrance was deemed inappropriate to air on UK screens before 7.30pm, while Julia Roberts's advertisement for Teint Miracle foundation by Lancme was pulled following complaints that the actress was overly airbrushed.

Swift, who was recently crowned 'Artist of the Year' at the 2011 American Music Awards, is working on a new album which she claims will be "very different" to her previous work.

Last month, the singer was named 'Entertainer of the Year' at the 2011 Country Music Association awards.
