Track Review: Taylor Swift, 'If This Was a Movie'

TAYLOR SWIFT"If This Was a Movie" (3:54)Producers: N. Chapman, T. SwiftWriters: T. Swift, M. JohnsonPublisher: Sony/ATV Tree Publishing Company/Taylor Swift Music (BMI), Martin Johnson Music/EMI April Music, Inc. (ASCAP)Big MachineIs our little princess growing up? "If This Was a Movie," a new single off the deluxe edition of Taylor Swift's "Speak Now," made a splash on the Hot 100 a year after the singer's third album was originally released. The fast-paced ballad suggests that the 21-year-old has been through a breakup and wishes to reverse it: "I just want it back the way it was before/And I just wanna see you back at my front door," she sings. Swift is lyrically coming of age, abandoning the fantasy world of high school and exploring more mature content. A simple recurring guitar riff moves the song along, and its dramatic chorus features simple harmonies providing sbackup to Swift's signature twang. She may not be entering Christina Aguilera's "Dirrty" phase quite just yet, but "If This Was a Movie" represents a more age-appropriate track for the innocent country hero.
