Johnny Reid, Taylor Swift Honored at Canadian Country Music Association Awards

Country music headed north to Canada for the 2012 Canadian Country Music Association Awards held Sunday night at the Saskatoons Credit Union Centre. Taylor Swift was honored with the CCMA Generation Award while American country stars Jason Aldean, Pistol Annies, Miranda Lambert and Eric Church were among the nights performers.

The show kicked off with a performance of Canadian Girls by Dean Brody,who went on to be named Male Artist of the Year in addition to picking up the trophy for Album of the Year for his album Dirt. Johnny Reid took home the coveted Fans Choice Award as well as Top Selling Canadian Album of the Year.

Carolyn Dawn Johnson was named Female Artist of the Year and trio Hey Romeo took home Group or Duo of the Year. Kira Isabella won her first CCMA award, picking up the Rising Star Award. Presenters included Taylor Swift, Alan Doyle, Allan Hawco, Amber Marshall, Graham Wardle and Theo Fleury among others.

Between performances, Miranda Lambert and her Pistol Annies group mates were bu! sy meeti ng some of their Canadian country music heroes, including Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Corb Lund and Terri Clark to name a few (and fellow American artist Anita Cochran).
