NJ teen battling cancer hopes to take Taylor Swift to prom
February 23, 2012 (WPVI) -- One sister's request for her cancer-stricken brother has gotten the attention of thousands on the internet and the hope is it will get the attention of one more - Taylor Swift.
Victoria McGuire of Camden County set up the "Taylor Swift take Kevin McGuire To Prom!" page.
At 9:30 p.m. Wednesday over 17,000 accepted the invite to the page, by midnight it was past 23,000.
Plus, #teamkevin was trending throughout the night on Twitter - including a tweet from rapper Travie McCoy who wrote, "#TeamKevin let's help this fella out guys!"So what is this trending topic exactly about?
As the Facebook page states, Victoria's brother Kevin, 18, was diagnosed with leukemia 5 years ago.
Victoria writes her brother won the battle with cancer in 2010, but he is now in a relapse.
"Kevin is the kindest, most noble 18 year old a person could even fathom meeting, and throughout his ups and downs Kevin never even questioned 'why me?'" Victoria states.
According to the Facebook page, Kevin, a senior at Sterling High School in Somerdale, New Jersey, plays football and basketball and is known throughout the community as a "real life Superman."
However, Victoria says that nothing makes her brother happier than Taylor Swift.
That is why she is on a mission, along with thousands of others, to see her brother take the multi-time Grammy Award winner Pennsylvania native to the prom.
"Kevin deserves more than anyone a special event in his life and the one thing he wants is to GO TO PROM WITH TAYLOR SWIFT!" Victoria writes.
It seems it is now up to Taylor Swift herself.
We can only wonder, though Kevin is older than "Fifteen," will the "Fearless" high school senior see "Sparks Fly" if his prom becomes "The Story of! Us" bet ween him and Taylor Swift?
It is safe to assumption that the Sterling High school student would like to say "You Belong With Me" at the prom to Ms. Swift.
And one more thing.
Victoria writes the Sterling High Senior Prom falls on Kevin's birthday.
An attempt to contact Victoria for further information was not immediately returned.
